Science Weekly presents the first episode of a new Full Story mini-series.
Pioneering Australian scientists Graeme Pearman, Lesley Hughes and Ove Hoegh-Guldberg saw the climate crisis coming. Pearman predicted rising carbon dioxide levels, Hughes predicted the alarming number of species extinctions, and Hoegh-Guldberg predicted the mass coral bleaching we are seeing today. All three became among the country’s most respected experts in their fields, traveling the world, briefing leaders and assuming that the world would act after hearing their alarming findings.
In part one of this three-part series, these climate scientists reveal the moment they realized the planet was heading toward catastrophe. What did they do when they found out? How did they think the world would react? And what do they feel today, thinking back to this moment of awareness?
